Spanish Wines Go Organic. Artículo en Foods & Wines from Spain.
There is no doubt about Spain’s unrivaled position as leader in the world’s wine market. The newly released statistics by the International Organization of Wine and Vine for 2014 report that Spain has 1.02 million hectares dedicated to wine production – the world’s largest area. The country is the third largest producer of wine in the world and number one exporter: a little more than half of the 42 million hectoliters that it produced in 2014 was sold abroad. However, what is perhaps less universally known is Spain’s dominance in terms of organic wine production. The country not only boasts the most surface area covered by organic vineyards – approximately 84,000 has in 2013 says the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment (MAGRAMA) – but it also produces some of the world’s most acclaimed organic wines.
