Bodegas Robles wins three Gold Medals at Ecoracimo 2018

Last May 12th, Ecoracimo celebrated its nineteenth edition at the Castillo de Montilla, Montilla, Spain. Ecoracimo is the oldest organic wine competition held in Spain and its consolidation has been linked to the growth of the industry itself: Spain currently dedicates almost 100,000 hectares to the cultivation of organic grapes, making it the world leader in the production of this type of wine.

Ecoracimo is organized by Ecovalia, the County Council of Córdoba (Diputación de Córdoba) and the City Council of Montilla, in collaboration with the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía). In addition, it is sponsored by Seipasa, a company dedicated to the research, development and manufacture of natural products for agriculture.

The event once again featured a prestigious panel of tasters, led by the oenologist Rocío Márquez. Desirée Rubio, general secretary of Ecovalia, stressed that “Ecoracimo’s main objective is to serve as a driving force for organic vine farmers and wineries that produce certified organic wines, by supporting the development of this industry and contributing to its promotion”. For his part, the territorial delegate for Agriculture, Francisco Zurera, stressed the role played by Ecoracimo in enhancing the value of organic farming, while the councillor for Economic Promotion of the City Council of Montilla, Manuel Carmona, reiterated the “commitment” of the City Council of Montilla with a contest that “is committed to values such as sustainability, respect for the land and a different and environmentally friendly way of production”.

Bodegas Robles has been awarded three Gold Medals: Gold for Piedra Luenga Fino, Gold for para Piedra Luenga Oloroso and Gold for Caprichosoo.

Piedra Luenga Fino has aged for two years under a flor veil made from the yeasts grown in our vineyard. A layer of lavender, poppies and wild clovers covers our earth and feeds our vines. The intriguing “solera” system mixes very old wines with younger wines thus mothering the young wines. An unique experience of maturity and freshness.

Piedra Luenga Oloroso has aged for six years in American oak barrels under oxidative aging. Organic wine with an intense mahogany colour and golden hues. Surprising for an initial raisin aroma, enhances an elegant evolution (green apple) with subtle aromas of dried laurel and incense. Powerful and harmonious. Glyceric and delicately sweet, yet dry, fresh and with increasing aromatic profile. The alcohol goes unnoticed and provides a very aromatic wine a that leaves a very long memory..

Caprichoso Robles is a sweet organic young wine, a coupage of raisin Pedro Ximénez grapes and the fresh Verdejo grapes. The subtle carbon dioxide bubbles make CAPRICHOSO fresh, alive, fun and aromatic. Its wide range of fresh aromas of fruits, honey and flowers make us travel in the spring in the vineyard among herbs full of inflorescences and pollen.

The Robles family has been dedicated to wine making in Montilla (Southern Spain) since 1927. In the late 1990s, the third generation takes over the winery and understands the need to incorporate organic viticulture and work with indigenous yeasts into the tradition of the winery.

Our approach is quite straightforward: grow the most intense and flavorful organic grapes that you can, guide the natural process and draw all the fruit’s richness into the wine.

With the experience acquired over three generations, we have learned an important lesson: the more we care for land, the better our wine.

And if awards have something to say something on the matter, it seems that we have achieved the objective:
